Questions and answers:
Q I have received a sales list and I see a camper that I want to buy what do I do now?
A A downpayment for a camper can be made by credit card or electronic banktransfer by calling us on +44-1332-661342.
The final payment for your camper is paid when you pick it up, this can be made by cash or credit card on the day.
Q I have seen a camper that I want but I am from overseas and will not be with you for some time?
A No problem we will store it free of charge and when your arrival date is near we will get it ready for you.
Q What do I need to do to make my campervan legal?
A Your campervan must have road tax which is £105 a year, a valid MOT certificate that we supply free of charge with your campervan and insurance that we will help you with on the day of collection.
Q Do I need vehicle insurance?
A Vehicle insurance is a legal requirement for everybody who gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. We can help you with insurance on the day of your arrival.
Q What types of insurance is available?
A The legal minimum insurance is Third Party. This covers everybody and everything involved in an accident except for you, your car and your possessions. For additional cover, in the event that your car is stolen or damaged by fire, Third Party Fire and Theft is available. The third and most expensive type of car insurance is Comprehensive insurance. This essentially covers most things that could happen to your car, subject to certain general exclusions.
Q What is a MOT?
A The Ministry of Transport test (more usually: MOT) is an annual test of automobile safety, roadworthiness aspects and exhaust emissions which are applicable to most vehicles over three years old in the United Kingdom if they are used on public roads.
Q How do I register my camper in my name and how much does it cost?
A At present it is free to register your camper in your name.
Q I don't have a UK address to register my camper what do I do?
A When you buy a campervan from us you can register it at our address.
Q Are our sales campers petrol or diesel?
A All of our VW T4 and T5 conversions are diesel. Some of our other sales camper may be petrol.
Q How much is petrol / diesel and which is best?
A Diesel is about 10p more expensive than petrol, however you get more miles per gallon with a diesel engine. The average cost of a litre of diesel at present is £1.10.
Q Can I 'free camp' anywhere in the UK?
A England, Wales and Northern Ireland - Because of problems with 'new age travellers' during the 1980's England & Wales have laws preventing one from just pulling over and stopping for the night. However, it is still possible to free camp, if you choose your location well. But you should always be prepared for a knock on the door from the police who might ask you to move along. In Scotland - Scottish law allows people the right to roam and camp. Free camping is tolerated if done responsibly. The Republic of Ireland is a separate country and has its own laws.
Q Will my camper come with a 2nd battery known as a leisure battery and how long does it last?
A All of the conversions from the VW Factory come with a leisure battery, however not all campervans come with a leisure battery so before you buy a camper please check that is fitted with one.
You can get information on driving in Europe from the AA www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/general_advice.html
When you are driving in Europe you will need the following paperwork:
a.. A valid full driving licence (not provisional), with paper counterpart if you have a photocard licence
b.. The original vehicle registration document
c.. Your motor insurance certificate
d.. Your passport
e.. Some countries may require an International Driving Licence
You will also need the following for your Campervan or Motorhome
GB sticker
Compulsory, and failure to comply could result in an on-the-spot fine.
Euro-plates - number plates that include the GB euro-symbol - have been legal since March 2001 and make display of a conventional sticker unnecessary within the EU.
In countries outside the EU a conventional sticker is required even if you have euro-plates, so it is always safer to display one.
Reflective jacket/waistcoat
When visiting Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria and Croatia.
It is recommended that each vehicle carries at least two jackets/waistcoats in the passenger compartment - one for the driver and one for a passenger who may need to assist e.g. changing a wheel.
The Jacket/waistcoat must conform to EU Standard BS EN 471: 1994 Class 1 or 2.
Headlight Adjuster
If you're driving to the Continent then you must adjust the headlamp beam pattern to suit driving on the right so that the dipped beam doesn't dazzle oncoming drivers.
Never go without adjusting the headlamp pattern.
Remember to remove the converters as soon as you return to the UK.
First Aid Kit, Warning Triangle and Spare Bulb Set.
It is recommended that you also carry an unopened First Aid Kit, 2 Warning Triangles and a complete Bulb Set.
We carry all of these items in our extensive accessories shop. In fact we have lots of items in our shop to help you on your way.
